Caryn Leventhal of Seniors’ Choice Professional Handyman Services gave us a thought provoking presentation on how we can improve our home environment for safety and livability. As we age many aspects of our homes can present dangers that we many not appreciate. Her company will survey the home and make simple suggestions that will make it possible to stay in our own home as we age.
Frank Coxon gave us an excellent history of Franklin Delano Roosevelt our 32nd President (1933-1945) and included just the right amount of impersonation to make it come to life. If you were not at the meeting you missed an excellent history lesson and entertainment.
Kristi Hawthorne gave us a very interesting presentation on the history of Oceanside. Having lived here for 20 years it was good to learn more about the town. It is a shame that some of the old buildings have not survived.
Letter (paraphrased) from El Camino High School (as read by Jim Downs):
A big thanks to our own Dr. Curtis McRae for his emergency, pro bono dental work provided to student, who was beaten as a young child and given asylum here.
Quotes for August 8th
Bob Reinseth, to Jodi Coe:
“Here, let me take that away from you”!
Meaning Jodi’s coffee after a particularly exuberant (even for Jodi), caffeine-charged Happy Dollar accounting of recent hookups with long-lost friends and relatives.
Pat’s annual homage to the Hiroshima atomic bomb event, this time with a reference to how the “Tokyo Rotary Club” then changed their name to “The Wednesday Club” for the duration of World War II.
